STATEMENT BY MAYOR ANTONIO VILLARAIGOSA ON THE CALIFORNIA LEGISLATURE'S APPROVAL OF HISTORIC WATER BOND PROPOSAL
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa issued the following statement regarding the California Legislature's approval this morning of an $11.14 billion water bond proposal:
"The Water Bond proposal approved by the legislature this morning is very good news for Californians and for the people of Los Angeles.
We owe a debt of gratitude to Speaker Karen Bass, Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg and the entire Los Angeles legislative delegation for successfully navigating this through to completion. They fought hard to pass a strong proposal that will help us reduce our reliance on imported water by dedicating billions of dollars for groundwater cleanup, recycled water, and conservation. The proposal is especially good news for the San Fernando Valley where we have a significant need to cleanup our groundwater basin.
Los Angeles will need to compete for these funds, but make no mistake, there is a lot in this proposal that will benefit our ratepayers. I look forward to strongly supporting this proposal when it is put before voters next year."
