MAYOR ISSUES STATEMENT ON SHOOTING AT ADAT YESHURUN SYNAGOGUE
LOS ANGELES-- In response to the shooting at Adat Yeshurun synagogue, Mayor Villaraigosa said:
"Synagogues, mosques, temples and churches are houses of peace. They are safe havens for people of all religious faiths to worship without the threat of violence or persecution. At approximately 6:19 AM this morning, officers responded to a call of a shooting outside the Adat Yeshurun Valley Sephardic Synagogue on Sylvan Street in North Hollywood.
Two men were shot as they arrived at the temple. The victims were taken to area hospitals where they are being treated for non-life threatening injuries. They are in good condition and are speaking to investigators. It is important to let the men and women of the Los Angeles Police Department conduct their investigation and find the individual or individuals responsible for this senseless act of violence.
Until they have concluded their investigation, none of us should presume or speculate anything more about this crime other than it was a random act of violence. We can all be thankful that the victims of this crime are being treated and are expected to make a full recovery."
