MAYOR VILLARAIGOSA ISSUES STATEMENT ON GANG CRACKDOWN IN SOUTH LA
LOS ANGELES -- Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa today issued the following statement on the multi-agency gang crackdown of the Rollin' 40s that was executed this morning in South Los Angeles:
"The Rollin 40s gang has exercised their control over some of the most vulnerable communities of South Los Angeles for far too long--through a criminal enterprise that included murder, robbery, and drug dealing.
This morning, we’ve taken one big step towards ending their reign of violence and intimidation, and towards taking back the streets for families to raise their children without the threat of random violence.
Once again, this department has shown what it can do when it has the resources to fight crime in our city, and the personnel it needs to carry out operations of this magnitude.
I want to thank the brave men and women of the Los Angeles Police Department, and the multi-agency task force of over 1,000 federal, state and local law enforcement officers that helped take down one of the area’s most violent street gangs."
