MAYOR VILLARAIGOSA, LAPD OPEN NEW REGIONAL CRIME CENTER FACILITY
New facility will house LAPD’s Real-Time Analysis and Critical Response Division, providing 24/7 support for officers and detectives throughout the city and region
LOS ANGELES - Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa today joined Police Commission President John Mack, First Assistant Chief Jim McDonnell, incoming Deputy Mayor for Homeland Security and Public Safety Eileen Decker and members of the Real-Time Analysis and Critical Response Division (RACR) at the opening of the Los Angeles Police Department’s new Regional Crime Center.
“The RACR Division provides the real-time information our police officers need to respond at a moment’s notice,” said Mayor Villaraigosa. “This facility is giving our officers on the front line the communication capabilities necessary to fight crime in our communities.”
The RACR Division provides around the clock notifications on significant events, situational awareness, and investigative support for field units. In addition, RACR is capable of accommodating the LAPD’s Department Operations Center during a citywide emergency.
The Regional Crime Center will house 150 officers, including detectives and support staff, to streamline information to officers and detectives throughout the city and the region.
The Regional Crime Center is located in the new 84,000 square-foot facility that also houses the City’s Emergency Operations Center, Emergency Management Department and Fire Station 4. The new facility is LEED-Certified, can withstand a magnitude 8.0 earthquake and features blast-resistant exterior surfaces.
The facility was funded by Proposition Q, the Citywide Public Safety Bond Measure passed in 2002 that provided $600 million for the construction of 11 new police facilities and the renovation of 12 existing police stations.
