MAYOR VILLARAIGOSA ANNOUNCES GRAND OPENING OF LOW INCOME HOUSING UNITS FOR HOMELESS PERSONS AND VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Rehabilitated Alexandria House Apartments consists of 16 residential units with access to supportive services

LOS ANGELES – Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa today announced the grand opening of the Alexandria House Apartments Project, 16 low-income units in Koreatown.  Seven of those units are reserved for homeless or those at risk of being homeless and victims of domestic violence.

“Alexandria House is part of our effort to combine housing with supportive services in order to help individuals and families achieve long term success,” said Mayor Villaraigosa. “These rehabilitated apartments will improve the quality of life for those most in need and help them maintain housing stability and avoid a return to life on the streets.”

All 16 units are intended for those individuals and families who are living at or between 35% and 50% of the area median income.  In addition, seven of the units will be targeted towards survivors of physical abuse.

Residents of the apartments will have access to the facilities at Alexandria House, the project’s social service provider.  Programs and supportive services available to residents include a child care center, an assistance and enrichment center, a computer center, a large play yard and confidential counseling and support group rooms.

Since taking office, Mayor Villaraigosa has funded 1,078 units of permanent supportive housing, investing in more units to serve the homeless or those at risk of homelessness than in the previous twelve years combined.
