Nothing symbolizes Los Angeles more than rush hour gridlock.

But that hasn’t stopped Mayor Villaraigosa from investing in state-of-the-art technology, data-driven methodology,  and stricter traffic enforcement to get LA commuters moving again.

Los Angeles’ signal synchronization program is one of the premiere, state-of-the-art traffic management systems in the country.

Using advanced computer algorithms, the City adjusts traffic signals in real time to make sure motorists get the maximum “green” time, reducing travel delay an average of 32 percent.

Accidents account for 25 percent of traffic congestion.

By directing the flow of cross traffic, new left turn signals make city streets safer and keep cars moving. Under the Villaraigosa administration, the City has installed 300 new signals, with another 160 planned for installation.

Since taking office in 2005, Mayor Villaraigosa has increased funding for road repair by 30%, which has yielded a 137% increase in street maintenance and more than 800 miles of street surface repaved.

For the first time since World War II, the standards of Los Angeles’ streets are improving.

The Gridlock Tiger Team patrols the streets ticketing and towing motorists who illegally park their vehicles along major Los Angeles corridors during rush hour.

More than 50,000 citations have been issued and more than 18,000 cars blocking traffic have been towed, keeping the streets clearest when we need them most: during rush hour traffic.
