On July 20 Mayor Villaraigosa joined LADWP General Manager David Nahai and Jet Propulsion Laboratory Director Charles Elachi to announce a collaboration that will deploy JPL's space age technology to reduce LA's environmental footprint and spawn a new generation of clean technology firms in LA
The Mayor invoked JPL's historic role in developing the technology that helped the US win World War II, and he set the stage for their leadership to address the current global environmental crisis. This same aerospace and defense technology built the manufacturing base that catapulted LA to the forefront of the aerospace industry.
The relationship between DWP and JPL will lay the foundation for a new explosion in the clean technology sector in LA. This partnership builds on the CleanTech LA partnership between the City, research universities, and the business community to create new green jobs in Los Angeles.
